Those three words gush from me like a waterfall these days. Unplanned, spontaneously, spurted out in the middle of conversations because they’d just be hanging there at the tip of my tongue, and every slightest pause or lull would make them spill into the gaps.

I used to feel guilty saying them back then. It felt as if I had no right to, you didn’t belong to me then. People would hear, and it didn’t feel right that they know how my heart belongs to you so entirely. But now? With God’s rightful grace, now our love is a thing to be shared.

And you laugh when you recall how I insisted for you to only use those words sparingly. Because I say it all the time now. Because I want the whole world to know. Because, each time I say it, it doesn’t become less precious like I thought it would. Or decline in worth or lose its value because it’s used so often.

I love you.

And it just means more and more. Always.
